Union City Homes and Real Estate

Union City sits just south of Hayward and to the north of Newark and Fremont. With a population of about 75,000 people it is significant in size with a large Asian population (about 42%)

For much of it’s life, the area successfully fended off annexation attempts from Newark, Fremont and Hayward and finally in 1959, they incorporated themselves as Union City taking the name from the first community in the area dating to the early 1850s.

One significant fact is the original county seat of Alameda County was in Union City as was the first county courthouse.

Today Union City is mostly a bedroom community with little industry. It does have a BART Station which opened in 1972 allowing Union City to attract residents interested in affordable homes while commuting to their jobs south to Fremont and north to Oakland and San Francisco.
