The history of San Ramon is like much of the tri-valley area. It was largely farming until the 1950s when urban development took off. Today, much of the outer areas of San Ramon including the western hills remain undisturbed. The Iron horse Trail runs through the area as it connects Dublin to the south with Concord way north. This trail follows the old South Pacific Railroad line that ran through the area from the 1890s and provides biking and hiking for the area.
